How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost in the UK?
The cost of a hair transplant in the UK typically ranges from £3,000 to £15,000, with the average 1,500-graft procedure priced at around £4,750. Our hair transplant prices start from £3,000 for small cases that don’t need many hair follicles to be transplanted as the surface area of hair loss to be covered is small, and can go up to £7,000 for larger cases where the requirement is for a larger number of hair follicles to be transplanted as the surface area of hair loss to be covered is large. Both FUT and DHI are +£1,000 extra.
All initial consultation are free of charge. The price includes the surgeon fees, operating theatre costs, the pre-surgery care as well as the aftercare kit, any medications that are needed and the aftercare follow-up sessions. There is also finance available.
Unlike many UK clinics, every hair transplant at Harley Street is fully surgeon-performed and not delegated to technicians. Our surgeons are GMC and ISHRS members, and operate from CQC-regulated clinics. You’re paying for surgical time, clinical governance, and an aftercare programme that continues for twelve months after your procedure.

Hair Transplant Cost by Number of Grafts
The biggest factor driving the cost of a hair transplant is the number of hair grafts needed to cover the area of loss. A graft is a small cluster of 1–4 hair follicles taken from the donor area at the back of the head and transplanted to areas of thinning or baldness. As a general guide, the more grafts you need, the higher the total cost, however the cost-per-graft typically decreases at higher volumes. Below is our full price list by graft count:
| Grafts | Harley Street Cost | Typical Case | Procedure |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 grafts | £3,000 – £3,500 | Small hairline touch-up or scar repair | FUE (1 session) |
| 1,000 grafts | £4,000 – £4,500 | Early receding hairline, temple points | FUE (1 session) |
| 1,500 grafts | £4,500 – £5,000 | Full hairline restoration | FUE or FUT |
| 2,000 grafts | £5,500 – £6,000 | Hairline + mid-scalp thinning | FUE or FUT |
| 2,500 grafts | £6,000 – £6,500 | Frontal third + mid-scalp | FUE or FUT |
| 3,000 grafts | £6,500 – £7,000 | Full frontal and mid-scalp restoration | FUE or FUT |
| 4,000 grafts | £10,000 – £11,000 | Full scalp restoration (donor permitting) | FUE, 2-stage procedure |
| 5,000 grafts | £12,000 – £14,000 | Advanced hair loss, full coverage | FUE, 2-stage procedure |
Prices shown are for guidance. Your exact hair transplant cost depends on donor area, graft count, and surgical complexity — confirmed at your free consultation.
Graft numbers rarely come out as round figures. One of our patients was quoted around 1,800 grafts and received exactly 1,804. There have been other patients with a larger difference in grafts quoted and graft numbers on the day. The price ranges above reflect the fact that surgical complexity, donor hair characteristics, and the design of the transplant all affect the final figure. Use our free hair graft calculator for a more personalised estimate, or book a consultation for an exact quote.
Hair Transplant Cost by Procedure Type
The type of procedure that you are eligible for, affects both the cost and the suitability for your specific pattern of hair loss.
FUE Hair Transplant Cost
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is the most popular hair transplant procedure in the UK, and the technique used for most Harley Street procedures. The cost of an FUE hair transplant at our clinics starts from £3,000 for small cases, with the average FUE price sitting at around £5,500 depending on graft count.
FUE involves removing individual hair follicles one at a time from the donor area using a precision punch tool, then implanting them into the recipient site. Because there’s no linear scar and recovery is fast, it’s the go-to procedure for most patients. The FUE cost reflects the surgical time required — a typical 2,000-graft FUE procedure takes a full day and is performed entirely by our surgeon, not delegated to technicians as is common in Turkey and at some UK clinics.
Unshaven and partially-shaven FUE procedures are available for patients who can’t shave their head for personal or professional reasons. These cost slightly more due to the extra time required, and are limited to around 2,000 grafts per session.
FUT Hair Transplant Cost
FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), sometimes called the ‘strip method’, involves removing a narrow strip of scalp from the donor area, from which individual grafts are then dissected under microscope. At Harley Street HTC, the FUT hair transplant cost starts from £4,000, which is typically £500 to £1,000 more than FUE, with an average price of around £6,000.
The higher FUT price reflects the extra resources required: an additional hair technician for graft dissection, specialist microscopes and surgical tools, and the skill required to suture the donor area for a fine, well-concealed linear scar. FUT is particularly suitable for patients with Afro or tightly-curled hair where FUE can be technically challenging as well as patients that don’t want to shave their donor area.
One advantage of FUT is that it preserves the donor area for potential future procedures, making it a strong choice for younger patients with progressive hair loss. The visible linear scar is the main trade-off, although it is typically fine enough to be hidden by hair of grade 2 length or longer.
DHI Hair Transplant Cost
DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) is a refinement of FUE that uses a specialised implanter tool called a Choi pen, allowing grafts to be extracted and implanted in a single step without the need to create recipient sites in advance. DHI hair transplant cost at Harley Street HTC starts from £4,000, with an average of around £6,000, similar to FUT pricing.
The DHI price is higher than standard FUE because every step of the procedure is fully surgeon-performed from start to finish (technicians only hand tools out), and because the Choi pen itself is an expensive specialist instrument. The technique allows for very precise control of graft angle, depth, and density, making it particularly well-suited to hairline reconstruction and smaller, high-density cases. Because DHI is slower than FUE, the procedure is typically limited to small to small/medium areas rather than medium to large areas.
Beard Transplant Cost
Beard transplant cost at Harley Street HT Clinics starts from £3,000. The average beard transplant costs is between £4,500 and £5,500 depending on the amount of coverage needed, from filling in patchy areas to building a full, dense beard from scratch. A beard transplant uses the same FUE technique as a scalp hair transplant, taking individual follicles from the donor area at the back of the head and implanting them into the beard, moustache, or sideburn areas.
The number of grafts required for a beard transplant typically ranges from 500 for small patchy areas, and can go to more than 3,000 grafts for a full beard restoration. Most beard transplants use between 1,500 and 2,500 grafts, putting the typical cost in the £4,500 to £6,000 range. Because the beard area is smaller and more visible than the scalp, precision in graft angle and direction is critical, something only a skilled, doctor-led procedure can deliver.
Like scalp hair transplants, the price at Harley Street HTC is fully inclusive: surgeon fees, operating theatre, medication, aftercare kit, and all follow-up appointments. There are no hidden costs. Use our beard graft calculator for a more personalised estimate.
Eyebrow Transplant Cost
Eyebrow transplant cost at Harley Street HTC starts from £3,000 for the surface area of 1 eyebrow with most cases falling between £4,000 and £5,500 depending on whether you need a partial fill-in or full eyebrow restoration. Eyebrow transplants can use FUE or FUT (depending if the patients wants to shave their donor area or not) to take follicles from the scalp donor area and then implant them into the brow with careful attention to the natural angle and direction of eyebrow hair growth. A typical eyebrow transplant uses 200 to 400 grafts per brow.
Unshaven Hair Transplant Cost
The cost of an unshaven or partially shaven hair transplant will be slightly higher than normal because of the complexity of the procedure and the extra time and effort required. Also the number of grafts that can be transplanted are limited to 2,000 as the procedure takes longer than a fully shaven one.

Yes. Every initial hair transplant consultation at Harley Street is completely free, with no obligation to proceed. We offer in-person and video consultations across our London and Manchester clinics.
Yes. Every price quoted at Harley Street is fully inclusive. Surgeon fees, operating theatre, all medication, aftercare kit, and follow-up appointments for 12 months after your procedure are included. There are no hidden costs or separate aftercare bills.
Yes. FUT hair transplants typically cost £500 to £1,000 more than FUE because FUT requires additional surgical staff and specialist equipment. At Harley Street, FUE starts from £3,000 and FUT from £4,000.
Hair transplants in Turkey are cheaper primarily because procedures are largely performed by technicians rather than surgeons, with one surgeon often overseeing multiple concurrent procedures. UK clinics like Harley Street HTC use a single surgeon performing the entire procedure, which is more expensive but produces more consistent results and carries far lower revision risk.
