Pre-Hair Transplant Surgery
The cost of a hair transplant is very much dependent upon how many grafts need to be used during transplantation. Most quotes we offer out on a daily basis cost between £4,000 and £6,500. Smaller cases, such a beard transplant or eyebrow transplant, may be as low as £3,500. Larger hair transplant cases may even be as high as £10,000. For more information please view our hair transplant prices page.
You can sign up for a hair transplant consultation using our free consultation form. The free video consultation is completely free, even if you decide not to go ahead with our clinic for your hair transplant!
The real question here is whether you want an fue or fut transplant. the FUE hair transplant method looks to take individual hair follicles and implant them into the recipient area.
Alternatively, the FUT transplant (“strip” surgery) extracts a linear strip of skin from the back of the scalp and implants hair follicles into the recipient area. The FUT hair transplant is now generally considered to be obsolete.
The need for hair transplant operations is dependent upon the amount of balding and thinning you may be suffering with. In cases where hair loss is only in its initial stages, then alternative treatments may be recommended. Take a look at the following articles to see which treatment may be right for you:
If you’re thinking about hair loss, then a question you have probably asked yourself is “should I get a hair transplant in Turkey?” Our recommendation is to make sure that you know who is doing your hair transplant. As the saying goes “you get what you pay for”. What we have found is that there is a reason that quite a large amount of clinics abroad offer cheap pricing. This being that the surgeon doesn’t perform the hair transplant procedure.
There are many different types of hair types that are eligible for hair transplantation. At Harley Street Hair Transplant Clinics, we are experienced at performing surgeries on straight hair, curly hair, wavy hair, and afro hair.
Hair transplants are able to be performed on men, women, and even transgender patients. The main variable that affects the eligibility for transplant is the size and quality of the donor hair on the back and sides of the head.
Younger patients, under the age of 25, may need to agree to take finasteride as part of their patient contract agreement. This is so they will be able to maintain hair density post-surgery and slow signs of further hair loss.
During Hair Transplant Surgery
During the procedure itself, all patients are provided with local anaesthesia. This means you will not fell anything during the procedure itself, but you will be awake and conscious. Most patients tend to say it feels like a head massage!
Most hair transplants performed typically take between 6 and 8 hours to perform. For larger cases, the work is usually split over two surgery dates. For smaller cases, such as beard and eyebrow transplants, surgery times can often be shorter. If you’re ever unsure, don’t hesitate to ask one of our consultants!
On the day of your hair transplant, it is important to wear some comfy clothes, like a comfy t-shirt and shorts, leggings, or tracksuit bottoms. Please avoid wearing tops with hoods or tight neck holes. We recommend a button up shirt.
After the surgery, patients will be bandaged. Any item of clothing that restricts or rubs against your surgery spot may be painful, or even damaged your implanted hair.
On the day of the surgery, be sure to bring comfy clothes and a means of entertainment (iPad, Tablet/Phone/Book). Lunch will be provided on the day of your hair transplant.
Post-Hair Transplant Surgery
For an FUE hair transplant, the initial recovery period is typically between 10-14 days depending on the patient. This is the typical time taken for your initial scarring to heal fully, enabling you to take off the bandages.
During the initial recovery process, you will also be provided with a full aftercare package and hair transplant aftercare instructions about your first hair wash for your transplanted hair.
Of course, this answer is very much dependent upon the patient and the rate at which their hair grows. For most patients, results begin to show from around months 9-12. However, it is important to note that everybody’s hair will grow at a different rate. So, don’t be alarmed if it is beginning to grow slowly.
Your follow-ups will occur 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after your hair transplant takes place. This enables us to follow your progress, answer any questions or queries you may have, and give you important information about what to expect over the coming months.
At Harley Street Hair Transplant Clinics, we pride ourselves on patient care. A patient’s recovery process is as, if not more, important as the transplant itself!
There are many things you can do to maximise the result of your hair transplant. In the initial 12 months, we would always recommend 3 courses of PRP. This is going to help your hair follicles grow thick and strong.
Many patients also consider using finasteride after their surgery. This is a great preventative medication that will help to slow any signs of further hair loss down the line! It is a great way to keep your existing hair!
Hair loss or hair shedding after your transplant is not always a bad thing. In fact, sometimes it is a completely natural occurrence. Between 4 and 6 weeks after hair transplants, it is not uncommon for follicular units to shed. These will grow back naturally and there is nothing to worry about.
Although hair loss medications and treatments are not essential, it is always wise to consider them after your transplant. A great way to think about it is this… You have gone to all the effort of paying for and having a surgical procedure. So, why would you not take those extra measures to maximise the longevity and appearance of your result?
You can begin to exercise two weeks after your transplant. The key aim is to make sure that your donor area and recipient site have recovered fully after your FUE hair transplant. The last thing you will want to cause is an infection.
